Coastal General Construction was responsible for merging two small existing spaces into one warm, inviting, and functional restaurant space. Using a combination of reclaimed and new materials to create a custom outfitted interior that is welcoming and rich. The custom bar was constructed of a patchwork or reclaimed doors, using the handles as purse hooks for extra functionality. The wood ceiling was meticulously created by aging and distressing new materials to feel like they have been there for years. The custom backsplash, shelving and tap box all reinforce the one of a kind look that the restaurant embraces.
As with any commercial space, the challenges involve creating a space that is not only beautiful but functional and up to code. In this case study we needed to design a working open kitchen in a small space and to combine the dining and kitchen/service areas which were on different levels in a way that was safe and made sense.
