Residential & Commercial Construction

Working together to create something extraordinary
At Coastal General Construction, the Ogunquit area’s trusted custom homebuilders, we collaborate with each client to design and build one-of-a-kind custom homes and to create plans for inspired home additions and renovations.
Coastal General Construction was established in 2006 by founders and partners Jerry DeHart and Norm Clough. Our unique business model offers design-build services ensuring your vision is perfectly articulated from the first idea of your dream home, through each phase of construction, to the final walk through.
We have carefully chosen a committed and skilled core Coastal team rounded out by trusted sub-contractors, specializing in all facets of construction, from the first steps including excavation and foundations, to fine finish work, including custom millwork and cabinetry, custom kitchen and bath redesigns, to outdoor landscaping & hardscaping, and more.
We work closely with each client to breathe life into their ideas and to deliver a bespoke, fully custom home, addition, or business space that perfectly reflects their vision. Norm and Jerry strive to build close relationships with each client and are personally involved with every step of every project.

The 'Coastal Crew'
Meet Our Team

Jerry DeHart, co-founder
Project Manager & Estimator
Jerry has deep roots in the area and the construction industry. Born and raised in York County, in southern Maine—his family having originally settled in the area in the 1600s. After a year at the University of Maine, Jerry jumped at the chance to attend the Construction Technology program at San Jose City College in California. Upon completion of his apprenticeship, Jerry quickly ascended to the role of residential construction project manager. In 1987, he became a licensed General B Contractor in the states of California, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. Under his leadership his company, DeHart Construction, grew to over 50 employees specializing in the regional specialty of West Coast residential home building and commercial construction. A sabbatical in the 1990s satiated Jerry’s affinity for international travel and he traversed the borders of more than 40 countries immersing himself in the diverse cultures— and the amazing global architecture. Upon his return to the United Sates, he continued his education at the University of Georgia, where he received several trade certificates of excellence. In 2001 Jerry returned to his home state of Maine and settled in Ogunquit where he launched DeHart Construction, allowing him the pleasure of building homes in the place where the coastal home designs were those that inspired his calling as a builder. In 2006, he joined forces with Master Carpenter Norm Clough to launch Coastal General Construction.

Norm Clough, co-founder
Project Manger & Designer
Norm is a coastal southern Maine local. He was born and raised in Sanford, Maine. Even as a young teen he had a natural affinity for carpentry. Majoring in building trades, he graduated from Sanford High School and continued his education at Southern Maine Community College (formerly Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute), earning his Applied Science, AAS, degree in 1982. He quickly worked his way up the corporate ladder to become General Manager to 70+ employees at a successful regional retail company. During that time, he kept a firm hold onto his desire to be hands-on, to build, and so Norm continued to work part-time as a self-employed finish carpenter. The classic New England and coastal homes of Southern Maine were the inspiration for Norm to become a master carpenter and his abundant creativity and eye for aesthetics led Norm to CAD design. In early 2001 he made the leap from corporate life to answer his true calling and founded his own company, Norm C Home Improvement relying on his proficiency in each phase of the design and construction process. In 2006, Norm merged his business with DeHart Construction to found Coastal General Construction.
