Hutchins Commons
The Hutchins Family has run their landmark Ogunquit business for almost 200 years. What began as a blacksmith shop morphed into a successful car dealership, and then into The Blacksmith Mall. A devastating fire in 2022 rendered the building a loss. There was never a question they would rebuild. What came from their vision, designed and constructed by Coastal General Construction, is the new Hutchins Commons.
Street level shops, visitor parking, and 2nd floor vacation condominiums, fill a niche for the town of Ogunquit.
One of the first businesses on the south end of Main Street in Ogunquit it welcomes visitors heading north into town as they breath a happy sigh having "arrived."
We enthusiastically welcome them back.
Coastal Alchemist
When the historic Ogunquit inn changed hands in 2025 the new proprietors had visions of a luxury boutique hotel with an eclectic coastal eatery. The renovations included reception area, kitchen, and dining ad bar spaces. The result: a warm sumptuous interior, perfect for indulging in good food and good cheer.
And a s fun bit of history: that gorgeous neon sign that reads, "Goodnight Ogunquit" was somehow procured by the inn's owners. Back in the early 80's there was a summer season when dance clubs that served alcohol were prohibited. So, just over the line in Cape Neddick, a dance club opened — Goodnight Ogunquit!" Locals of a 'certain age' will remember and smile.
Kind thanks to our friends at The Trident Inn for sharing photos of their signature restaurant, Coastal Alchemist. It was an honor to be a small part of this historic property's metamorphosis.
